CRISTINA ORTEGA

Ms. Ortega has had a notable career nationally and internationally by expressing the operatic and concert music in prestigious Mexican, North American and European Opera Theatres and Concert Halls, including the Carnegie Hall in New York.  She studied voice and music at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, under the direction of the distinguished baritone and maestro Angel R. Esquivel.  Her distinct interpretive quality and range allows her to be versatile in both popular and classical music.

Her opera career has led her to perform with renowned artists such as Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, Beverly Sills, Teresa Berganza, Pedro Lavirgen, Louis Quilico, Juan Pons, Ramón Vargas, and Mignon Dunn.  As an interpreter of popular traditional and romantic songs, she has performed in a variety of Mexican television series and programs for three decades.

She has received many awards and acknowledgments from several organizations, cultural institutions and public media, and has been received with wide acclaim by worldwide audiences.

She is a dedicated promoter of the Lyric Arts and Hispanic music and songs, and has developed her career as an Artistic Director of a Lyric Company which presents Opera, Operetta and Zarzuela (the greatest
of the Spanish musicals).

Ms. Ortega has lived in San Antonio, Texas, since 1994, and has taught classes in Vocal Technique since 2002.  She is currently the Artistic Director of the Hispanic Heritage Society.  She continues to perform in Mexico, and annually presents recital series in the Museums and Concert Halls of Mexico City.
